ASNT is pleased to announce the first “Faces of NDT”! These traveling spokespersons will help promote NDT to the world by traveling to industry events, sharing their passion for the industry, encouraging others to pursue a career in NDT, and helping to spread the word about ASNT.

“We were thrilled to receive so many quality responses to our call for the Face of NDT,” said Garra Liming, ASNT Director of Marketing Communications. “We were only planning to pick one, but in the end we selected Shauna and Brent due to the enthusiasm they shared in their applications and the passion they clearly have for NDT. We are excited to have them represent a new generation of ASNT.”

Shauna Kagan is a quality control/NDT technician at Oceaneering Umbilical Solutions in Panama City, Florida. She currently holds IRRSP, ACCP Level II in PT, and employer Level II certifications in VT, MT, UT, and RT, and is pursuing ASNT NDT Level III certifications in VT, MT, UT, PT, and RT.

Kagan, who has been working in NDT almost 20 years, says she can’t imagine a more exciting field to work in.

“NDT has been an amazingly exciting career for me and my family. I have traveled the country, seen, and done some amazing things. I’m a problem solver, and NDT allows me to help identify problems and assist in the corrective action process. There is never a boring day at work,” says Kagan.

“I am honored to be the face of ASNT and NDT. I absolutely love what I do, and I appreciate the opportunities that have been afforded to me because of my passion for NDT. I hope that telling my story of success in this field will provide aspiring NDT professionals a real-life example of what is possible.”

Brent Moulton is a multimedia development specialist at the American Institute of NDT (AINDT) in Baxter, Minnesota.

Brent Moulton

Moulton is a graduate of AINDT and has been involved in NDT for about six years, five of which were spent traveling throughout the US performing inspections, most recently in Alaska. He first joined ASNT as a student member in 2016 and is currently preparing to take the ASNT NDT Level III Basic exam.

“One of my favorite things about working at a school is I get to speak to so many individuals about [what] NDT is, what it looks like as a career, and what the day-to-day job is when you’re out there inspecting these items,” Moulton says. As one of the Faces of NDT, he hopes to continue this outreach on a larger scale.

  1. This is a great initiative from ASNT and even better to see ‘younger’ faces with so much enthusiasm for the sometimes ‘unknown’ world of NDT. As someone who has spent the last 47 years in NDT, I like to think I’ve tried to encourage younger people to follow this engineering discipline that touches so many important parts of industries worldwide. We are a community that should be proud and I’m even more thrilled someone from Oceaneering has been honoured in this way – I’ll be reaching out to Shauna to congratulate her and well done ASNT !!

  2. This is WONDERFULL! Along the lines of “Practitioner Profile” in The NDT Technician, which I has always been my most enjoyable asset of ASNT.
